Peter and the Wolf

Community Outreach

Music by Prokofiev
City Center Ballet offers an in-school program on Peter and the Wolf, Prokofiev’s exciting tale about Peter’s antics to catch a wolf. Originally intended to cultivate musical tastes in young children, Peter and the Wolf continues to educate and delight children nearly 80 years later. The program includes an introduction to ballet, a 25-minute narrated ballet performance of Peter and the Wolf performed to Prokofiev’s music, and followed by a Q and A. The entire performance can take from 45 minutes to one hour and a quarter, depending upon your schedule.

School Performances 2016
  • Plainfield Elementary School, Plainfield, NH
  • Marion Cross School, Norwich, VT
  • Lyme Elementary School, Lyme, NH
  • Prosper Valley School, Pomfret, VT
  • Lebanon Opera House - Public Performance, Lebanon, NH
The company has its own costumes, sound system, and set. We can perform on the hard floor surfaces found in most gyms, auditoriums, and multipurpose rooms. There will be a handout for each student outlining the history of Peter and the Wolf as well as an explanation of the musical parts and their relation to the story. The performance venue can be set-up in just an hour and a quarter.

The fee for the performance is quite reasonable. While the actual costs of the production exceed the fee, we will have foundation support to cover the remainder. City Center Ballet believes that exposure to the arts is critical to the complete education of every child and wants to make this opportunity as accessible as possible. Please consider scheduling this City Center Ballet program for your school and help bring the classical arts of ballet to a new generation.
